Summer Program

During a summer at Pillsbury, you will do everything a lawyer does. You will work on active matters. You will attend client meetings and court appearances. You will take part in depositions, due diligence reviews and closings. You will collaborate with attorneys practicing at the top of their game, and you will gain a real sense of how lawyers think and problem solve. As much as we enjoy working, we also enjoy what we do, and that's reflected in our Vault rankings.

Substantive Assignments

Whether you have zeroed in on your preferred practice or you prefer to taste test many areas, we accommodate you. Most important, the work will be substantive and will broaden your perspective as it builds your skills. Assignments performed by recent summer associates include:
• Helping prepare a $350 million financing deal for an international company
• Assisting in class-action litigation on behalf of mentally disabled persons
• Participating in negotiations on a client’s behalf for technology sourcing contracts
• Helping draft a motion for stay of execution for an Ohio death row inmate

Training and Mentors

Training—both formal and informal—is at the heart of the summer program. We provide professional development sessions on legal writing, practice excellence, management and leadership skills, ethics and professional responsibility, building client relationships, and the practical aspects of being a new lawyer. You will be assigned at least one mentor, but you will also see that our team approach facilitates any number of less formal relationships with partners and associates. This collaboration will expose you to many people who help you succeed.
