Docket Clerk (2651)
The New York/Miami office is seeking a Docket/Calendar Clerk to join the Managing Attorney's office in its New York office. The successful candidate will work in a friendly, collaborative environment and be responsible for coordinating all litigation filings, docketing and calendaring for the litigators in the Miami office. This role will also provide supplemental support to the NY litigation department when appropriate, and other tasks at the direction of the Managing Attorney.
Principal duties and responsibilities include supporting MAO team-members with filings, research and the like; advising attorneys and staff on Federal, State, and local rules of procedure and practice; advising attorneys and staff on rules of procedure, local rules and practices with respect to calendaring; filing and/or serving documents in State and Federal courts, including pleadings, motions, and discovery; filing and servicing, electronically or by other means, papers in state and federal courts, including pleadings, motions and discovery papers; performing docketing and calendaring; docketing Court filings, discovery and other papers by using firm's calendar tool; working with vendors to obtain court files, serve process, and other litigation-related support; maintaining and updating electronic databases such as ECF logins, form files, etc.; confirming procedure by performing online research and/or contacting clerks of court; responding to written or verbal request/inquiries from attorneys, paralegals and secretaries regarding calendared events, pleadings, and court procedures and modifications to compliance dates on the docket calendar; reviewing papers before service and filing for correct form, signatures, required filing fees, required number of copies, etc.; staying informed on procedural best practices, case trends, and rule changes; and drafting form documents and letters.
The person in this position must display professionalism and provide quality service with a "can do" attitude with internal members/departments of the firm as well as external clients and vendors via electronic and print correspondence, over the telephone and in-person. Successful candidate will have a knowledge of PACER, CourtAlert, NYS Unified Court System, CompuLaw, Courthouse News Service, Courtlink, Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, NY Civil Practice Law and Rules, NY Rules of Court, and local practices. Candidate should have demonstrated ability in complex filings, both paper and electronic; be able to effectively work under pressure in a demanding and fast paced environment; possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills; be able to use discretion and exercise independent and sound judgment; be detail oriented; have the ability to work courteously/effectively with others; be able to organize and prioritize issues and handle competing priorities; be able to take initiative in handling projects and anticipating what needs to be done; be able to raise potential defects with filings based on experience and knowledge; and have the flexibility to adjust hours and work necessary to meet operating and business needs.
Candidate should have a minimum of two-three (3) years’ experience in a Managing Attorney’s/Clerk’s office or similar role. In addition, successful candidates will possess strong organizational, communication and time management skills and be proficient with MS Office Suite. Candidates must be self-motivated, dependable, have the ability to multitask and work well under pressure. Accuracy and solid attention to detail are required.
