Payroll Manager (2590)
The Payroll Manager will be responsible for managing and coordinating the activities of the Firm’s payroll department for domestic and international (expatriate assignments) partners and employees. This position will report to the Director of Partner, Tax and Compensation Accounting.
This individual is responsible for the following daily processing and maintenance items: assign /update earnings, deductions and tax information; ensure accuracy for all payroll related tax information on a periodic, quarterly and annual basis; prepare misc. monthly journal entries as needed; produce semi-monthly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports from payroll reporting system and distribute as needed; work with the Director of Partner, Tax and Compensation Accounting and the PC/Tax Manager to maintain and update all applicable spreadsheets, processing of partnership distributions and corporate payrolls to ensure deadlines are met; process foreign currency wire requests for select international offices and maintain/process pay information for Abu Dhabi & Dubai offices.
The following management duties will be also required: oversee and review on-demand checks and deposits for accuracy; review semi-monthly payrolls for accuracy before completing; ensure proper Finance & HR internal controls are in place and maintained; develop and maintain policies and procedures related to the Payroll Department; identify and implement programs to improve efficiency; maintain strong customer relationships with our payroll and tax service providers as well as with the HRIS and Benefits Departments; maintain and update training documentation as needed; support and promote staff performance through effective leadership.
Ideally, the candidate will have a working knowledge of Workday payroll systems and reporting in addition to a working knowledge of ADP Tax Service. At a minimum, the candidate should have a deep understanding of federal and state tax and wage regulations; strong accounting, analytical and problem solving skills; the ability to research and resolve domestic payroll tax issues; exceptional organizational, employee management and time management skills; must work well under pressure in a time critical environment; the ability to establish effective working relationships firm-wide; the ability to plan, assign and direct work; mentor, encourage and support payroll staff; possess excellent written and verbal communication skills; and maintain an exceptional level of professionalism to effectively handle telephone calls/e-mails with proper etiquette. The individual must have flexibility for some travel when required.
Preferred experience includes a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business or Accounting or equivalent experience; CPP or ten plus years’ experience in multi-state high volume payroll processing; partnership accounting experience and international and expatriate knowledge a plus; knowledge of Aderant and Chrome River Financial Systems. Candidates should have advanced Excel skills.
