Legal Secretary (2641)
Pillsbury is seeking a legal secretary in our Carmel Valley office. The person in this position will be responsible for monitoring client-specific dockets, maintaining soft dockets for US and foreign actions, review and accurately proofread documents from the USPTO and foreign patent offices; and report these documents directly to clients. Other responsibilities of the position include prepare and file new utility, continuation, divisional, US National Phase, and PCT applications, including any additional essential documents with the USPTO. Prepare and file Information Disclosure Statements. Prepare, forward to clients, and obtain executed formal documents required to complete US and foreign application process, including Powers of Attorney, Oath and Declarations, Assignments, and Formal Figures. Using USPTO, EPO, WIPO, JPO, KIPO, and Internet websites, research and compile data on U.S. and foreign patent applications and patents for firm attorneys, client inquiries, foreign associates, and other IP team members. Communicate across all department levels including attorneys, patent agents, paralegals, Docketing, Accounting, New Business, and Records. Organize client meetings and Business Development Seminars, enter attorney time, travel planning and expense reimbursements, maintain attorney calendars, maintain paper and electronic patent files, file emails to NetDocs, and open new business matters. Coordinate intake and transfer of files.
The successful candidate will have sufficient experience and understanding of the patent prosecution process to prepare prosecution documents for filing with USPTO, complete Powers of Attorney, Oath and Declarations and obtain executed formal documents required to complete US applications. Using USPTO and Internet websites to research and compile data is required. The position requires excellent organizational skills and a high level of technical/computer proficiency, especially with Microsoft Office Suite. Working knowledge of Inprotech and NetDocs is preferred. Attention to detail is essential in this position. Candidate must be self-motivated, dependable and accountable with the ability to work well under pressure while handling varied prosecution and administrative tasks within a busy environment. Candidate must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
