The Silicon Valley office of the firm has an immediate opening for a Business Development Manager with four to five years of experience to assist the office’s Corporate & Securities – Technology (CS&T) group. Entrepreneurs, venture capitalists and emerging growth companies rely on Pillsbury’s Silicon Valley CS&T team for advice on everything from company formation to financings, corporate governance, technology transactions, acquisitions and public offerings. With decades of experience, we have assisted thousands of entrepreneurs, startups and investors across fast-paced, developing industries.

The Business Development Manager will report to the Director, Business Development, who is located in the San Francisco office. While this position will primarily support the SV office, you will be part of the larger marketing team located throughout the country and will work with your team regularly to complete firmwide objectives. The Business Development Manager will have responsibility primarily for managing the internal business development efforts in the Silicon Valley office, including creating pitch materials, conducting research and analysis, managing events and generally planning, supporting and implementing a broad array of business development initiatives to help expand the firm’s Emerging Growth & Venture Capital practices in the Silicon Valley office.

Other responsibilities of the position include providing strategic counsel to the CS&T Section Leaders in the areas of overall business and marketing plans, objectives and priorities, strategies, tactics, budgets and best practices. Working with colleagues in Communications, PR, and Online Marketing & Database Development to help prioritize, contribute to and ensure synergy of all initiatives. Identifying industry/technology trends and their impact. Modernizing and managing marketing collateral. Responding to pitches and RFPs and tracking wins/losses. Drafting, reviewing and updating pitch materials and other collateral materials. Managing the collection and entry of matters into matter database for use in marketing materials. Updating bios, deal lists, league tables/rankings, client and VC lists/contacts. Collecting information and drafting of directories submissions. Managing, organizing and participating in a variety of events, including monthly industry events as well as the creation of in-house events on cutting-edge topics. Organizing information about our practices and lawyers, existing and prospective clients, venture capitalists, investment bankers and others in the tech ecosystem, and their industries and competitors. Coordinating efforts and sharing information with marketing colleagues in other offices and practices to facilitate cross selling, especially for the top 30+ targeted ongoing clients. Facilitating communications and disseminating best practices.

Ideal candidates will have a minimum of 4-5 years of relevant experience with demonstrated record of accomplishment of law firm or professional services success. Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree in Marketing and or a business related field. Have thorough knowledge of their functional area (can complete complex assignments on their own) and broad knowledge of the other marketing functions in the department. Anticipate issues and opportunities, and address them with little or no supervision. Find and effectively use data, experience and judgment to formulate realistic and sound points of view, find solutions and engage partners in dialogue about it. Candidate must have exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills are critical to success as are collegial, collaborative and team player attributes. Candidate must be a self-starter who thrives on juggling numerous high visibility projects on fast and tight timetables and can handle high-pressure environments. Strong to advanced technical skills with the Microsoft Suite of products as well as technology specific to the legal field is required.
