Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman’s Intellectual Property Practice has an immediate opening for a mid-level Associate with strong academic credentials and demonstrated experience in litigating complex IP matters. The ideal candidate will have solid IP litigation and patent, trademark or copyright experience, and will already have substantial experience functioning successfully in a fast-paced, service oriented environment. Resident in the firm’s Los Angeles office, the candidate will work closely with top lawyers on a wide variety of intellectual property and litigation matters.
The IP department handles patent, trademark and copyright matters and a wide range of litigation in state and federal courts and before government agencies. Responsibilities include litigation case management, taking and defending depositions, drafting pleadings and briefs, managing discovery, researching and analyzing complex technical issues as well as drafting and prosecuting patent, trademark and copyright applications. Responsibilities also include counseling clients regarding all IP-related legal aspects, drafting IP agreements, and providing IP subject matter expertise for corporate deals. The successful candidate will have excellent writing skills and solid experience in all phases of discovery, drafting and filing pleadings, motions, discovery and briefs.
The candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree, a Juris Doctor degree (JD) from an accredited law school and be a member of the California State Bar in good standing. A CS/EE degree is preferred, but not required. The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal, oral advocacy and writing skills, strong analytical, technical, organizational and time management skills, and knowledge of ethics and conduct codes which are a requirement for the proper and legal practice of the law.
